My Services

Brand Identity
Marketing

I first start by hand drawing original logos and then render them in photoshop.
Next I define typography, color palettes, taglines and imagery that breathes life into a brand.

UX Design
Info Architecture

I oversee the full duration of a project. This ranges from concept sketches, wireframes to clickable prototypes. I also serve as the connection point between the management and teams of engineers. I'll adapt my communication style to make sure design and development goes smoothly.

Web Analytics
Usability

What truly shows if a design is effective is in digging into the product's metrics. The statistics help me design user tests and experiements to help me find ways to improve an app. This is really what helps companies grow!

About Me

"Designing a product is designing a relationship." - Steve Rogers

A design challenge and a blank canvas are exciting prospects for me. I like seeing where ideas will take me and connecting different ideas. When I'm not designing or creating art I'm trying to cook new dishes, learning to dance and daydreaming of places to travel.

Design concept for smart A/C unit

Kapsul is a smart, beautifully designed air conditioner unit that connects to a mobile device. They launched on Kickstarter and became one of the the most funded projects raising $1.5 million dollars. I worked with Kapsul to develop new concepts for their Android app.

The Challenge

Kapsul wanted an Android App that was as simple and beautifully designed as the air conditioning unit. I lead a "Design Sprint" to create concepts for the temperature control and scheduling within the app. We did timed sketching sessions to come up with as many different concepts within a time limit. Next wireframes were created and an app flow was mapped out. Finally our team created interactive prototypes that we tested with potential users. This was all done within a week.

Discover and buy wine you'll love

Drync is a mobile-first e-commerce company that lets users buy wine they love instantly. I helped them re-imagine the entire mobile experience to bring a fresh modern UI to this popular wine app.

The Challenge

The difficult part of Drync was taking an outdated app and giving it a fresh look and feel. I simplified the visuals and navigation so the beauty of the wine labels could shine through. Also I added subtle animations and transitions to make taking a photo to buying wine a seamless experience.

The Results

Drync has been well received by aspiring wine lovers worldwide. The app is well on it's way to surpassing 1 million worldwide users. Additionally Drync has gotten amazing press and is featured frequently in the Apple App Store.

The Process

Moodboard - The moodboard I went with is "Vintage & Hip". We used black and white vintage imagery for the splash images as well as many of the marketing materials. The design of the app retains a modern look with a minimalist color scheme.

User Persona - For user personas we wanted to appeal to seasoned wine collectors as well as beginning wine drinkers

Mockups and interaction design - Wine labels are inherently beautifully designed so I wanted to showcase them in the list view. As the user scrolls through the list the "Drync" button quickly fades out and fades back in when the user stops scrolling. The loading animation shows concentric red, pink, yellow rings to symbolize the different types of wine: red, rose, white wine.

Web design for home improvement startup

Renoviso is home improvement made simple. The Renoviso website lets users customize a home improvement online and then the user receives expert installation.

The Challenge

When I started working with Renoviso they had a website that was overly complicated. In order to customize a home project, a user had to use a page that had too many bells and whistles. As a result many users were dropping off at that customization page. I had an insight that a step-by-step wizard (much like Turbo Tax) would be an easier experience for users. The step-by-step wizard allowed users to choose each customization and the price of the project would update as they went along. I quickly created clickable prototypes of the step-by-step wizard and did usability studies with test subjects.

The Results

The redesigned website with the step-by-step wizard drastically outperformed the old website. 80% of users would complete the wizard and get to the registration page leading to 12x in sign-up conversions. As of spring 2018 Renoviso was able to raise $7 million in venture funding. It is one Boston startup to watch in the coming years.

Redesign concept for my fav bus app

Nextbus is an app I use frequently as a commuter. The app is great at giving real-time information about when the next bus will arrive at a given stop. It is very useful but extremely difficult to navigate.

The Challenge

I gave myself a day to do research, design the app, and create a clickable prototype. My goal for the design was to make the visual presentation of information clearer and add functionality that would increase engagement. I believe adding alerts and a way to add favorite bus stops would enhance the usability of the app.

UX consultant for Boston-based incubator

At the Techstars Boston incubator, I worked with the hottest young entrepreneurs in Boston. In 3 months I contributed UX designs to three seed stage startups Pact, Libboo, Zagster.

The Challenge

Juggling the design needs of three companies at the same time was a challenge. One hour I was designing a logo and brand identity for Libboo and the next hour I was designing a workflow for Pact. For Zagster (Zipcar for bikes) I participated in a brainstorming session at the world renowned design firm IDEO. In less than a week Zagster had a brand new website from concept to front-end html/css.

The Results

My versatility and speed were really put to the test. I felt good contributing designs that immediately impacted each startup. Post demo day all three startups raised healthy seed rounds and two of the companies are still around today.

Explore immersive real world experiences.

EveryScape is the real world online. EveryScape was among the first startups to use connected panoramas to re-create real world experiences. Think Google Streetview but earlier in time.

The Challenge

I had to create a new visual vocabulary for this 3D web experience. Even the design of a forward arrow took close to hundreds of different design concepts. It had to stand out and look clickable yet not look too obstructive and take away from the beauty of the scene.

The Results

Though Google ended up the dominant player in the space, EveryScape is still helping local businesses showcase their interiors. Through ES I had the unique opportunity to travel around the world. With a camera, tripod, and fisheye lense I captured the beauty of a Caribbean sunset and the majesty of the Great Wall of China.

Fun Side Project. Fast paced trivia

Celebrity Swipe Quiz is the FASTEST trivia game ever! Do you know your favorite celebrities? Are you faster than your opponent? The game is simple...see a question and swipe LEFT or RIGHT on the celeb picture cards to answer. Challenge real players from around the world for epic heart-pounding action. See how well you know your favorite celebrities and where you rank in the world.

The Challenge

How could we take the concept of a trivia game and make it fast paced and competitive? The key was borrowing the Tinder swipe gesture interaction. This made the game fun, fast paced, and highly addicting.

The Results

Reached top 100 in 3 countries and has 3x more engagement time than the average phone game. Not bad for an app with no marketing!

Digital Art

This was a though experiment answering the question what would result if you took the styles of artist A and artist B? In work one I took Cezanne's composition and color sense and matched it with Gaudi's textured mosaics. In the second work Hokusai's majestic compositions are merged with Duchamps playful cubism. Lastly Velasquez's grand compositions are matched with Kandinsky's joyful play of colors.
